Fix Coffee – Shoreditch

In our last episode we have visited Fix Coffee in Shoreditch. On the rainy and miserable winter day we were looking for a quiet and cosy place, and as a last minute change of plans, we have discovered Fix Coffee, and what a find it was!

The “Fix” branch is located in 161 Whitecross Street, which is a perfect spot on a super busy weekend when all the cafes and restaurants are at peak and you just really want a peaceful and cosy sofa for a chat, date or even just to read your book. It has a slightly vintage decor with some very cool and colourful interiors. FIX also offers a good choice of healthy drinks and snacks as well as coffee machines and grinders for fanatics like us.

The cafe does not disappoint even when it comes to their brew. They proudly offer a wide range of original and unique blends. During our visit we were true to ourselves and ordered a ‘short’ and a slightly ‘longer’ delicacy.

Tiz had her favourite, espresso, while Adrienn ordered a piccolo with soya milk, which is similar to a flat white, but slightly smaller. This is what they looked like:

The staff at the counter were well trained and knowledgeable, they were able to advise us what blend to choose depending on if we were drinking of coffees with milk / soya or without.

The drinks were served in an elegant and simple glassware that really showed off the craft they were created with. We could easily see and admire all the beautiful layers of froth and coffee.

Now let’s talk about the flavours 🙂 The brew was thick  and creamy and had the perfect consistency. The exclusive roast for Fix had the characteristic and recognisable dark chocolate and caramel flavours coming through as we enjoyed each sip. The aftertaste was also smooth and didn’t leave a bitter taste behind.

During our visit we have also met a lovely couple who sat at our table. Experiences like this really makes the blogging worth the effort 🙂

Finally to find out what we had to say about Valentine’s day make sure you watch the episode 😉

Le Petit Corner – Leytonstone

To record our latest episode of our blog we have visited the super cute Le Petit Corner in the heart of Leytonstone. Located just a few steps away from the tube station, this new Coffee shop is guaranteed to be one of the cosiest and friendliest in the newly up and coming neighbourhood. The cafe is owned by a half English, Half French duo, who wanted to create a family friendly space for those with small kids, but also for those who want to be able to enjoy a nice coffee and chat without screaming kids next to them (this is more like us), so the space offers two separated floors so both can enjoy their time there. We thought this was a BRILLIANT IDEA, as being coffee bloggers we find it sometimes difficult to find a space that offers a quiet corner.

During our visit we had the pleasure to chat to one of the owners, Toby, who has kindly explained pretty much everything about their coffee, from the machine they use to the brew. It was great to see how much love and care they put in their cups. Toby told us that they source their coffee from the Winchester based Roasting Party and they mainly use the product called “Joe’s Green Balloon”. We thought this was a very good choice, as described by the roasters, this particular blend has a “round body, moderate acidity, and in the flavour you can taste slight dark chocolate with hint of dark fruits”.

During our visit we had a skinny cappuccino and a soya latte, which looked perfect despite the soya. This is how it was served:

In the cappuccino you could recognise the fruity and chocolaty taste, which was a great combination with the medium roasted aroma and a perfectly frothed look. The latte was very smooth and creamy and the soya didn’t overpower the taste of the coffee. Both drinks were presented in retro /vintage mugs and cups which mirrored the environment of the place and which was super cute.

We would also like to mention, they also serve fresh food cooked in their kitchen, if you are hungry give it a go! The menu also offers vegetarian and vegan options.

To sum up, we were big fans of the mild and rich taste experience and the delicate after taste the brew left in our mouths. We can say we were very satisfied 🙂

Vegan Coffee Smothie

It’s January and we don’t know a single person that is not dieting or detoxing, so we thought it’s time for us to create something to help you all with your goals (and ours of course).

As you know everything we do is around coffee, so we sat down do develop a recipe that is true to our taste and our passion, the Vegan Coffee Smoothie 🙂

This is what you need:

  • 1 banana – we recommend organic
  • hand full of fresh coconuts – alternatively coconut flakes
  • 1 small cup of coffee – up to your taste, we used espresso
  • 1 small cup of almond milk – we recommend unsweetened to save a few calories
  • ice

Next stop, blending. Put all the ingredients in the blender and let the fun begin.

It already looks yummy. Tip: If you are using fresh coconut however you will probably need to blend it longer.

And tadaaa, this is what you get:

Super yummy and healthy coffee smoothie to help you during the detox and diet.

Enjoy and let us know how you liked it!

Nude Espresso – Brick Lane

In the heart of Brick Lane, Nude Espresso welcomed us with a cosy and warm feel. The cool interior, red colours and decoration makes it the perfect spot for a date or a nice chat with friends. If you are new to this place, you quickly realise these people really know their coffee 🙂 The cafe is proud of their own bean sourcing, roasting and brewing facilities and as they say, they are super eager to deliver the best speciality coffee to you.

The cafe is young and buzzing with energy. If you look around, you find a mixture of people reading books whilst sipping coffee, people working on their laptops…and of course us, gossiping about something as usual and trying the coffee. Great experience!!

During our visit we had a single origin macchiato and a cappuccino which looked like this:

We were very impressed with the precision and the quality level the coffee was prepared with. The texture of the coffee was thick and creamy and had an intense dark colour. The flavour was strong and characteristic from the rich roast and if you don’t put sugar in your coffee you can taste a slight bitter aftertaste. It is a great coffee experience for those that like stronger coffee.
